I was born in southern California and raised in
SLC. After attending BYU and U of U, I left for a life in
Chicago. My professional experience started with United
Airlines and went from there along a variety of paths – including my
favorite -- the work/play of managing musical performers and groups.
Though I made the opportunity to live in
varied and diverse neighborhoods, my favorite Chicago residence was
Hyde Park, the home of the University of Chicago, and the first
successfully integrated community in the US at that time (early
60’s). I was one of the masses of young adults who spent
precious years trying to understand (and alter) the significant
events of my generation.
Then it was off to Los Angeles for 25 years.
There too, I lived in a variety of places: from San Fernando Valley
to Manhattan Beach; from Pasadena to Marina del Rey -- and parts in
between. Continuing to be curious about everything, I worked
in still more professions while I kept my own small-business
consulting firm happening. A personal favorite of my LA
professional life was running the non-profit org., Right Track,
whose mission was to identify and utilize drug-free celebrities to
teach young people the value of living a clean, sober life.
Hands-on rehabilitation of old properties was
a great way to create assets and support my passion for Right Track.
The restoration of a 19-room Victorian was the highlight of that
section of my life. Little did I know that living in old
houses while rehabbing them would open me to a world of trouble.
It began with lead poisoning and moved on to a 1997 diagnosis of
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) and CFS (ME as we say now).
Fibro came calling later.
While in Chicago and later in Los Angeles, I
participated in Scientology as a source of personal growth.
Though no longer active, I credit this knowledge with raising my
quality of life and deepening my understanding of things spiritual.
I had a plan for my life (What was I
thinking!) which got altered by several “out-of-the-blue’s” and
worthy callings – chronic illness and the needs of aging parents as
examples. After a 4-year return to Chicago in 1998, I came to
‘rest’ in SLC – ending my forty-year sabbatical. I credit the
time I assisted my mother to build a new life and the years I cared
for my now-deceased father (Fall 2001-Fall 2005) as the create point
of a personal philosophy which has enriched my life -- “Give More
Than is Deserved.”
Oh yes, though having no grandchildren, I have
given my heart to my toddler god-daughter, born on my birthday (Do
gifts get better than that?), and am fortunate to have a beautiful
group of grand nephews and nieces.
I currently reside in the canyon rim home in
which I was raised -- a gift from my father.
OFFER is not just an interest for me - it is a
passion. I see the mission of OFFER as vital to my (our)
survival and my (our) participation as an opportunity to help in a
way that counts. It doesn’t get better than that.
No BIO of mine would be complete without
acknowledging the many who have given -- and are still giving to me.
